After losing to the Terrapins 2 years in a row, the Nittany Lions showed little mercy with a 38-14 victory on Saturday, Oct. 8 -- Maryland's first loss of the season.
The game consisted of lots of pushing and shoving, cleared benches and a Maryland player ejection.
Sophomore Saquon Barkley racked up a total of 202 rushing yards -- a new career high. He wouldn't have been able to do it without the help of quarterback Trace McSorely's decisions to run the ball instead of throwing it, displaying play execution and speed. McSorely also delivered several touchdown passes.
Penn State's offensive line also had a great performance, getting physical and really taking a hold of the game. Many would say they looked better than it had in the years prior.
The downfall of the game for the Nittany Lions was a right knee injury suffered by Andrew Nelson, in which he did not return for the game and by the looks of it, will not return to the field for the rest of the season.
For the second time in a row kicker, Joey Julius was targeted, being slammed to the ground unnecessarily after the play that he wasn't even involved in.
Isaiah Davis, who targeted Julius, was ejected from the game, being booed the entire way off the field.
Tensions grew high after Penn State safety, Nick Scott, gave a hard his to a Maryland punt returner.
Maryland wasn't too fond of it, though...
Both teams benches cleared as the two teams started to tussle.
Penn State's homecoming game was a good one for those in attendance; the team certainly didn't disappoint.
