My heart hurts for the hundreds of loved ones, friends and family members, that are suffering from recents events that left 32-year-old Philando Castille and 37-year-old Alton Sterling dead at the hands of police officers, and the shootings of 12 police officers that left five dead in Dallas, Texas. I can't imagine the pain they are going through right now and for the rest of their lives. Our entire nation is hurting over these senseless acts. Thousands of people, fed up with the violence and hatred, are taking to the streets and social media for their voices to be heard. In Omaha, hundreds gathered for a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest. Today, driving from lunch, I saw a few veterans on the side of the road, holding signs for peace.
These are reminders that these horrible events are driven by hate and the only way to change this world and stop these senseless, hateful attacks, is by coming together and spreading love. Even if you're one person, it makes a difference. Nothing good comes from hate and violence. Hate is a nasty plague that grows when you continue to feed it. It doesn’t solve problems and it won’t make the world a better place. You have to love people and spread kindness in a world where there is so much unnecessary violence and unnecessary death. Love people as passionately as you can while you can. Hug your friends and your family and your neighbors. Look people in the eyes. You don’t have to like everyone that you live with on this planet, but everyone on this planet deserves some compassion, so be kind and love one another. Do good in the world. Bring good to the world. Be the good in the world.
