I often get asked who I am voting for and I jokingly say, "I’m just going to write my own name down," just because I have no idea who I am going to vote for. I haven’t even paid attention to what is happening in politics and I am sure I am not the only one, but we need to start.
Sure I get CNN updates on what’s happening with the candidates, but I don’t even know what it means half the time. I attempt to look at the article, but then I realize I'm not even sure what they are talking about.
In a matter of seven months I am going to have to vote for the next President of the United States and as of right now I truly have no idea who I am voting for, and I know I am not alone.
On social media I can't seem to find anything reliable on what qualities each candidate has, just memes about something they have said. And everywhere I turn all I hear is the negatives if Hillary Clinton becomes our president and even worse when it comes to “The Donald.”
I hear that he isn't a politician and is going to "ruin" our country, and then I hear how we shouldn't let Hillary Clinton be our first woman president.
Everywhere I turn these days I hear people talking about the election, so I just sit there quietly and try to listen. Usually these conversations turn into arguments about who would be a worse president. I need information on who would be a good president, not a bad one!
Sitting here and saying I know nothing about the election would be lying, I mean I know who's running. I'm kidding, I know more than that. But there is a lot of information I don't know that I really need to start focusing on.
I need to take matters into my own hands and begin to look at what qualities each candidate has that I relate to and like. I do not want to choose a president just because that is who my friends and family are voting for, but for someone I want to run the country.
I never seem to hear anything positive about what they would do, which makes it even harder for me. My age group seems almost as confused as I am, but then some people know exactly who they want as a leader and I don't.
I want someone who will make things better not worse, but then again I'm sure that is what everyone wants. Are the candidates running going to be able to do that? I need to find that out before I vote.
This is my first time voting, and I don’t want to just throw away my vote to someone I know nothing about. It is time for me, and you, to start paying attention because our vote matters and we shouldn’t waste it.
