Alright, so inevitably all of you probably know in some way shape or form that the Super Bowl is this Sunday, to be played in chilly Minneapolis between the underdog Philadelphia Eagles and the hated, evil empire known as the New England Patriots. Of course, almost all of America (I would assume) is rooting for the Patriots to lose and lose badly to the Eagles, a great underdog story for a city that loves a great underdog:
(for those who don't know the story of Vince Papale, check it out, it's pretty cool)
Anyway, this city loves underdogs so much they even let fans wear "underdog masks" to the last game after Chris Long (who is also a great human you should read about) and other Eagles inspired it by wearing on the field after beating the Falcons:
Anyways, this Super Bowl has been forecast, predictably so, as an underdog against a serious, serious overdog (that's not a word but we're going with it), and understandably so, given the status of Tom Brady at the greatest player in the history of the game, and Bill Belichick as the greatest coach of all time.
This year has been interesting for the Patriots, as despite coming into the season as a perceived juggernaut, enough that there was a bet for the Patriots vs the field in Vegas that wouldn't have even netted you much of a return betting on the former. They didn't go 16-0, and they at times looked vulnerable, and they had times of un-Patriot like controversy between the trading of Jimmy Garoppolo, the falling out of that through an ESPN hit piece and the whole Tom Brady's trainer thing.
The Eagles are also an interesting story. There's the whole thing first off about Philly just being a crazy sports town, alongside Minnesota not appreciating the Eagles eliminating their team's chance at a home Super Bowl. As ridiculous at the Airbnb thing is, what one can't doubt is that Philly fans are indeed, batshit crazy:
For Boston to look at your city and call your fans crazy, you must be special, and they indeed are, which I mean as a compliment by the way. Anyways, it should be an entertaining matchup, and even if it isn't, Philly fans might burn down their city either way, which will at the very least be interesting.
(PS: shame on the Giants fans rooting for the Pats in this game)
