He is known as a driving force in bringing West Coast hip hop back into the mainstream. He was signed by Dr. Dre in 2002 and released "The Documentary" in 2005 which coasted his fame and reputation as a gangster rapper. He was placed in G-Unit and signed to Cash Money Records. He is The Game.
However, apart from his "hard-up" reputation, Game describes his upbringing as dysfunctional with a father who raped him and his sister, taking their virginity and causing him to undergo surgery to his rectum. When he was seven, he was placed in foster care and returned to his mother at age 15. Having endured many traumas such as emasculating life events, The Game is so much more than meets the eye... or in this era, the media.
Immediately, after one day following Independence Weekend, two black men were victim to police brutality. On June 5, footage of Alton Sterling being shot in the back with his face shoved to the concrete by police officers of Baton Rouge, and subsequently on June 6, footage of another victim surfaced the media - Philando Castile was shot at a stop light with his girlfriend with their preschool age daughter in the car.
The events led the masses to plan peaceful protests, taking action outside of the cyberworld. The Black Lives Matter movement took it to the streets of Dallas for a peaceful protest which was interrupted by a sniper who killed five Dallas police officers and wounded several others.
Following these series of events, The Game recruited Snoop Dogg to organize a peaceful march outside of the LAPD headquarters where a graduating class of officers were attending their ceremony to address the importance of unity with the assistance of more than 100 community members.
"This is how you make moves... You make it happen. You get some dialogue, some understanding with the new recruits before they hit the streets so that way, they know we're just like them and we trying to live and go home and get some understanding,” Snoop Dogg stated at the event.
It is important for the community to get to know their law defenders and see important rap OG's lead the way. This is essential for the black youth, especially when the media is spinning #BlackLivesMatter as the blame for what happened in Dallas. Having dropped his 7th studio project, "Documentary 2-2.5," a double disc with the sole symbolism of uniting the red and blue spectrum of Compton, Game's humble passion to destroy the divide among leaders in the immediate black community is commendable.
Ensuing the significant operation directed by Blood veteran, The Game and Crip veteran, Snoop Dogg, other celebrities caught onto the wave of activism as T.I. marched with thousands in Atlanta, Beyonce prompted the "beyhive" to contact their congressional representatives, Kim Kardashian and Drake posted heartfelt letters and Jesse Williams of Grey’s Anatomy dragged society of their moral shortcomings regarding racism in this nation.
It is important for those who have been granted a platform by the people to speak up for the people. And The Game does just that.
