There's nothing better than coming home to the greatest state in the country, Texas. Although I have to sit through a four-hour plane ride to get here, the feeling of stepping out of the plane into the beautiful warm weather always makes the struggles of going to an out-of-state college worth it. There are just some things in Texas that you can't get anywhere else.
Whataburger
My first stop whenever I arrive back to Texas is usually this slice of heaven. Although it apparently exists in other states (which I refuse to believe), it's a timeless Texas tradition and nothing can compare to spicy ketchup and honey butter chicken biscuits. And no, In-N-Out is not a favorable substitution for a Texan's beloved fast food restaurant.
Warm Weather
While it's been an unseasonably warm winter so far on the East Coast, I'm quickly learning not to take the Texas warm weather for granted. Whenever I'm shivering during the Boston nights in the 30s, I start to miss the unrelenting heat of Texas (and maybe, just a little, MAYBE the humidity.)
24/7 Fiesta
It doesn't matter if you live on the Mexican border or in the panhandle, Mexico, and its food in particular, is probably a part of your life. Whether you enjoy authentic tacos or lean more on the Tex-Mex side of things, you'll never find a shortage of south-of-the-border cuisine. All I can do is be thankful that I get to come home to the state that basically invented chips and queso.
Friendliness
While I've only been in New England for three months, I'm already beginning to believe that the people are just as cold as their winters. There's nothing quite like the greetings and smiles you get in Texas.
Sunsets
This is probably one of my favorite parts of coming home. There's nothing quite like a beautiful Texas sunset, whether it's adorned by coastal palm trees or the bigger city skylines.
