Roomie,

I know this is long overdue, but I just wanted to take the time to tell you how much I appreciate all that you have done for me. We share more than just a room, we share memories, laughter, tears, music, and most importantly - we share this journey through college. I know this list doesn't depict how truly grateful I am to have you, but here are some things I really want to thank you for:

1. Being my support system

Some days (probably most) are harder than the others. Thank you for talking me out of my impending mental breakdowns.

2. Being my partner in crime

From scheming, plotting and planning adventures, you've always been my partner in crime. Honestly, we're a dynamic duo. Watch out world!

3. Being my favorite date

From breakfast to lunch to dinner, I can always count on you to be my date.

4. The late-night car rides

We've contemplated running away more times than I can count, but instead, we always end up driving down some unfamiliar road in the middle of the night, music blaring, singing at the top of our lungs. I don't know why people spend hundreds of dollars on therapy when a car ride with your best friend is free.

5. All the advice

School work, boys, outfits, life-altering decisions. . . you've always offered me advice. I can't thank you enough that. You don't always tell me what I want to hear, but you tell me what I need to hear.

6. Being a shoulder to cry on

You've seen me cry on more than one occasion, and every time you've been there to help me through it. You don't even need to know the context of my breakdown to know exactly how to make me feel better. Whether that be just sitting with me while I have a moment, holding my hand, giving me a hug, or telling me something funny to try and get me to laugh.

7. Being my own personal "hype man"

You give the best pep talks. You hype me up before a big exam/presentation. You boost my confidence when I need it the most. Even the simple "you can do it" helps me through most days.

8. My favorite memories

We were friends before we were roommates, so our memories go far beyond sharing a room. I can associate almost all of my favorite college memories with you, because like I said before, you are my partner in crime.

9. The endless sleepovers

Every night is a sleepover with my best friend. Can't get much better than that!

10. Being my best friend

You are more than just the girl I share a room with. You are my best friend. College is stressful, life is stressful, but at least we get to be stressed together. Thank you for putting up with me on my bad days, and thriving with me on my good days. Life is so much better with you in it, and for that I thank you!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
