Why You Should Participate In The National General Strike

We all know about all the crazy executive orders that President Trump has been signing, and many of them we know have been unconstitutional. While we have been protesting, marching, calling representatives, and so much more, we feel like we have reached a point where a stronger act is needed. With the outrage against President Trump rising higher and higher, people have been planning a nation-wide general strike. Yes, you read the right. We are talking about the entire country going on strike on the same day. No work, school, or shopping as a way of protesting the Trump administration, and all the unconstitutional things they have been passing.

A guy by the name of Joe decided to come up with the event, and it took off on Twitter with many people using the #generalstike according to f17strike.com. Here are the demands that everyone who is going to participate in the general strike is supporting: "1. No Ban, No Wall. The Muslim ban is immoral, the wall is expensive and ineffectual. We will build bridges, not walls. 2. Healthcare For All. Healthcare is a human right. Do not repeal the ACA. Improve it or enact Medicare for All. 3.No Pipelines. Rescind approval for DAPL and Keystone XL and adopt meaningful policies to protect our environment. It’s the only one we’ve got. 4. End the Global Gag Rule. We cannot put the medical care of millions of women around the globe at risk. 5. Disclose and Divest. Show us your taxes. Sell your company. Ethics rules exist for a reason and presidents should focus on the country, not their company"(f17strike.com).

I think the strike is a great idea, and I know that I will be on of those people participating in it. (If you want to participate here are the details.) The date for the national strike in on the 17th of February. On that day according to f17strike.com, you are not supposed to go to work if it is possible. You should also try not to purchase anything, and the obvious thing is to show support on social media. (For more information on how to participate, click here.)

We as the people of the United States need to start standing up for what we believe is right and have our voices heard loud and clear by the Trump administration. We need to hit them where it hurts, and this is a great yet civil way to do it. So let us band together and join the National Strike on the 17th of February to show our support for such a great cause. If we do not stand up now, then who will?

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
