Weddings are usually an emotional roller coaster for people. Especially the hopeless romantics of the world. It is an even more intense roller coaster when you are close with the people getting married, whether you're family or a best friend. You have watched the two people meet and fall in love throughout the years and to watch them commit to each other for the rest of their lives is a tear jerker for sure.
There are some things about watching one of your closest friends get married that make it all worth while. Here are some of them.
1. Being asked to be a part of the wedding.
It's not an exaggeration when people say it is an honor to be chosen to be a bridesmaid. It really is. Out of all the people she could have chosen, she wanted you to be a part of her special day. No words can really explain it. You always said that you two would be in each others weddings throughout the years of friendship, and she actually held up her promise and picked you.
2. Spending the day getting ready.
As a bridesmaid, part of the experience is spending the wedding day getting ready with all the other bridesmaids. It is a full on girls day and it is so much fun.
3. All the funny pictures taken while getting ready or with the actual photographer.
Once all the hair and make up is done, it is fun to take silly pictures in your robes or street clothes before you actually put on your pretty dresses. But having the photographer around to capture these priceless moments makes it even better sometimes.
4. Watching her dad see her for the first time.
All the giggling stops at this moment. Seeing a man you pretty much considered another dad start getting all emotional seeing his daughter in her wedding dress hits you so hard right in the feels. There is no other way to describe that.
5. Realizing that you are all growing up and this is only the start of the weddings to come.
As you stand at the front, it hits you -- this is only the beginning of the weddings to come. You are growing up and all your friends will start getting engaged if they aren't already. So you realize you either need to have less friends or just get ready for wedding palooza throughout the next several years.
6. Seeing the whole family again.
While you know the immediate family pretty well, it has probably been a little while since you have seen some of the bride or groom's aunts and uncles. But rest assured they probably remember you much better than you remember them. But it is kind of cool walking in and realizing you know a large portion of the family already, so there are fewer awkward introductions.
7. The dancing at the reception
Once the reception starts, the alcohol starts flowing and the crazy dancing starts. It is almost more fun to sit on the side and just watch it all unfold. Shoes start coming off, ties come undone little by little and sometimes wind up tied on the head like a headband -- you know there's always that one uncle.
8. Watching one of your best friends marry their best friend and the man of her dreams.
This is probably one of the best things about being a part of one of your best friend's wedding. You get to see them make that life long commitment to their best friend and the love of their life -- and there is nothing more special than seeing that.
