KSU Department of Parking and Transportation,
Being a student at Kennesaw State University is amazing. We have our kick ass football team, amazing food from the commons, and our campus is one of the easiest to navigate. But, I need someone, anyone, to tell me how in the world I am supposed to go to school and make good grades with virtually enough parking for a small commuter college... NEWS FLASH: we are not just a small commuter school anymore!
At this point in time we have 32,500 students and only 3,000 of them live on campus. That leaves 29,500 people who have to find a place to park every single day. We have over 9,000 more students as Clemson, and almost the same amount as UGA. We as a whole always say we are as good, if not better than these SEC schools, but how would that be possible when our parking, and lack of space, prevents us from getting the best use of our tuition money?
When I went online to get my parking pass, I was told I would have to get a parking pass for the Marietta campus and take B.O.B. back to Kennesaw. Almost all of my peers seem to commute from home to campus and it's not like B.O.B. is on their route to their house, so what are they supposed to do?
When I asked around about what problems people have had within the first week of school, here's what I got...
"I've missed three classes because I literally had to keep circling all of the different parking decks and could not find a single spot every time I tried to go to class. I left an hour early to make sure I found a spot."
"I would rather not sit there looking for a spot and risk getting a ticket for a longer amount of time than my actual class is."
"Students were able to get two parking passes if they signed up early enough and paid for them while there are over 1,000 students who still haven't been given a pass."
"My dad is a professor here and they don't even have a parking pass for him so he has to take B.O.B. from the old Brands Mart to Kennesaw and back."
KSU administration, the stats and personal experience says it all. Expand, or unfortunately we are going to lose our amazingly smart, involved, and passionate students to other schools who are ready and willing to continue to grow and expand.
Sincerely,
A very frustrated and late student.
