Parker Interview At Goldrush 2017
Freed Lance Collective

It’s 3 PM on Day 2 of Goldrush Arizona 2017, the sun is beating down on everyone and I am standing in the photo pit waiting for Parker to come on stage. DROELOE just finished up and everyone stands relaxed waiting for the next set not knowing what to expect, but I do. Parker opens with his flagship song Spark, off his new Spark EP and at the drop everyone has a look that is a good mixture of confusion and bass face, so I guess here would be a good place for the “She Wasn’t Ready” meme. The only way to describe Parker’s style is simply that he plays whatever the hell he wants, and he does it well. The guy transitioned from future bass to drum ‘n bass to psytrance to hardstyle to dubstep to trap to rap and back around again without missing a beat. My friends had never heard of Parker, but they left with a new appreciation for someone I have respected and been a fan of for a while.

The name Parker has a simple and funny back story but a symbolism that strikes true. The name Parker came from Marvel's beloved Spider-Man, Peter Parker after he went to see The Avengers with his family, and from there he started building on an idea that is inspiring. “I came up with this idea of a child superhero costume that represents innocence and creativity and just that fear to not worry about anyone else and do your own thing.”

If you’re wondering why you’ve never heard of Parker before don’t worry, you’re not the only one. His alias Parker is still fairly new to the scene, but he has been making music for a while. He is on SLVYVLL (SLAYALL) with well-known favorites like Borgore, Getter, and Ray Volpe. Parker has a unique sound that is very distinguished and sets him apart from everyone else. Parker developed his unique sound through his melodies and mix-downs, “I think that if people want to create a unique synth and start a new genre that is great but for me, I really focused on my mix-downs and creating those super powerful melodies that I think are so important.” Parker has spent a lot of time working on developing sound, but he has the fortune of being able to do really whatever he wants. While a lot of DJ’s and producers often fall into a certain genre or category, but Parker wants to avoid that entrapment and keep making what he loves whether it's his roots in happy-hardcore or melodic electronic music.

Parker released his Nest HQ Mix not too long ago that was 30 minutes of just absolute fire and filth that caught just about everyone off guard. “Most Nest HQ mixes fit the indie, future bass, house vibes but I wanted to just take it and run with it, so I did.” Whereas his most recent Spark EP has more of a melodic tone and stays pretty upbeat while his newest song, KITES absolutely goes in and provides some of the hype that may have been missing from the EP.

Spark has been performing extremely well and one of the songs, Afterglow, has been on Spotify’s Top 50 Pop/Dance charts and is currently at the #4 spot which is incredibly impressive. I asked Parker how he felt about this and he replied, “I’m not even big and things are exploding and it’s so weird.” He did make it clear though that no matter how big he gets, he will always take the time to show his fans love and show just how much he appreciates them.

For those who don’t know, Parker is a gamer at heart and will usually stream his game-play weekly on Twitch which gives him a chance to connect with his fans in a non-traditional way. What’s even better about it is that he spends 30 minutes at the end of every stream listening to his fans’ demos. “Even if it’s someone who is just starting out I like to take the time to tell them, sick lead but keep rotting on it you know? If they can have someone like me show them appreciation and help them out it makes my day. As cheesy as it may sound I always tell people don’t give up on your dreams.”

To be honest with you guys sitting down with Parker has been one of the best experiences I have had because of the authenticity he brings to this industry that is often littered with fake and superficial interests.

He wanted his fans to know this above all else, “I love you guys, yeah it is a powerful thing to say but I honestly love every single one of my fans. My fan base is small right now, but it is a growing machine and even when I get to a million followers I want to love every single one of them just as I do now.”

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.
