This past weekend, me and two other lovely ladies, Tamara and Rebecka, decided to spontaneously travel to Paris for the weekend. Sounds crazy, right? It was.
I've wanted to go to Paris for as long as I can remember. There's just always been something about it that really drew me in and just called to me. A few times I had been discouraged by others from going before "it's dirty", "people are rude", "it's too crowded", but I didn't experience any of that; quite the opposite actually.
At first, I wasn't sure how to feel. We took an eight-hour overnight bus from London all the way to Paris. When we got there, it was about 6:00 am and no one was speaking English, so a little confusing as you could imagine. Thankfully, I've taken quite a few semester of French and I'm working on becoming fluent, so I was able to understand enough to get us around and have basic conversations (like saying "hi" and ordering some food).
We tried to order an Uber (thank goodness France has those) but the driver wasn't able to find us and didn't seem able to speak any English when he tried to call us to figure out where we were. We had to cancel and we got in a taxi instead. I'm not going to lie, I was kind of terrified. There I was in another country, barely able to speak the language, and having really no idea where our hostel was or if the taxi driver was going to take us to the right place or not. Thankfully, we got there in one piece and figured everything out.
In two days, we visited almost all of the big monuments and walked around twenty miles. Obviously, I've never been more tired in my life. Here are some pictures for an idea of what we got up to in those two days.
Paris was amazing. I found myself surrounded by beautiful people, beautiful accents, a beautiful language, and beautiful scenery where ever I went. It never actually felt like I was really there because it was just so dream-like and surreal. I recommend it to anyone and you can be assured that I'll be going back again.
