Why Parents Weekend Is The Best Weekend

Imagine this: You walk into a casual day-drink ready to have the time of your life (at least for the day) and you look to your left and see someone doing a keg stand. A pretty usual sight, you could say, except instead of a rowdy frat boy, it's a dad reliving his college days. It's Parents Weekend -- a time of parents getting as drunk as they used to years ago when they were college students themselves.

It's the first time you see your parents since you moved in and you can't wait. Parents Weekend means good food, good shopping, and lots of free drinks (if your parents are into that sort of thing, of course).

Parents Weekend is the time when your family can get together and maybe eat at that restaurant that's just a little too expensive for your college budget. Finally, you can get the clothes you have wanted, and on your parents' dime.

But Parents Weekend is not just a time for you to reconnect with your parental units. It's a time for them to reconnect with their college self. We all know it and recognize it. Whether it's the dads drunkenly singing and hitting on college girls or the moms hanging out with their daughters and throwing what they know for the first time in years, family weekend is always a time to remember (or maybe not remember).

Even if your parents don't join you for the weekend, you still have your friends' parents! Oftentimes hanging out with your friends' parents is a great way to participate in the usual festivities without being fully committed. This way you get all of the free food and drinks your parents would usually provide, but you can leave any time to go take that oh-so-needed nap after a day full of football, beer, and fun.

Although Parents Weekend may be over, it is something that should, and always can, be looked forward to. Although the faces of parents may change each and every year, Parents Weekend will forever be the same. Until next year, parents!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
