A Thank You To My Parents

I have a lot to thank you for.

A Thank You To My Parents
Alicia

Growing up, you never really stop to think about all that your parents do for you. I just expected my parents to be good parents and they were. However, the older I get, the more I realize that my parents had to make conscious choices that led to them being amazing parents. Of course, they aren't perfect, but they have helped raise me into the person I am today, and I would like to take a moment to thank them.

Thank you for supporting me. Whether it was going to my sports game, watching my plays, or just being a listening ear, you have always supported me. I could always count on seeing your face in the crowd, which always filled me with joy. You supported me as I thrived in my passions, and when I failed miserably. As I grow older, you continue to support my dreams (no matter how unrealistic they are) and allow me to explore who I am.

Thank you for caring about me. Whenever I was sick, or in need of a hug, you were first to take care of me. You care for me so deeply, that whatever I'm feeling, you feel. You ask me questions about school, you work with me to help better my future, and you genuinely want to know how I am feeling. Finding someone that cares that much in this world, is incredibly rare. And I am fortunate to experience that amount of caring, through you.

Thank you for forgiving me. We both know that I have not been the easiest to raise. I've made a lot of mistakes in my life, and you have been there to witness them. However, you have shown me patience and understanding when you didn't have to. You have helped me learn from my mistakes and shown me the path of forgiveness and unconditional love.

Thank you for inspiring me. I see you work hard in everything you do, and it inspires me. You have taught me to never take things for granted because I am so lucky to have all my blessings in life. I know to always be thankful, and if I work hard, I can do anything I put my mind to. Thank you for showing me that.

Thank you for being my hero. I see you the same way I did as a child, my hero. You may not think you are anything special, but to me, you are the entire world. No matter what mistakes you make as a parent, I will never see you as anything less than amazing. If I grow up to be half the person you are, I will be a pretty awesome human.

THANK YOU FOR LOVING ME. I have never once doubted your love for me. I realize this is something that not everyone experiences, and I feel so honored. I can say with my whole heart, that you have proved your love to me over and over again. My heart and soul are filled with your unconditional love, and it makes me complete. You loved me from the moment you knew about me, and not a day goes by that I question that love. I can't thank you enough for your beautiful presence in life, and your unending love.

As I continue to grow, my love and connection with you only grow stronger. I can't tell you enough how much I love you, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
