Parents, Stop Handing Everything Over to Your Kids
Quote Fancy

As a teenager I am sick and tired of people my age getting everything handed down to them. I have always had to work for everything. I do not rely on people to provide for me.

As an upcoming college student I am going to have to pay for my fair share, while what seems like everyone is not going to have to do a single thing. There are kids at my school who if they do not get their way, all they have to do is tell their parents and the parents come to the school in a threatening manner demanding for whatever it is to be fixed immediately. And sometimes there is nothing that can be done in the situation which I hope happens to all of the people who get their way to prove that it is not always about them.

As an example, our yearbook staff. We sell ads to local businesses to help pay to create the yearbook. A parent, and business owner was demanding that we fix their ad after the entire book was already submitted. She wanted a picture of her daughter for the ad. Well guess what female dog (putting it nicely), you had seven months to tell us how you wanted your ad to look and you didn't. So suck it up and act your dang age. There is nothing special about your daughter that gives her the privilege to be part of the ads. THERE ARE SENIOR ADS FOR A REASON.

Other parents here do not force their kids to get jobs or pay for things they want such as cell phones. So what if your child plays sports, jobs are required to give your child hours that do not interfere with school activities.

When parents are providing more than they should for their children then they are disabling them for what is to come in the future. Do you have any idea how many kids are not prepared for interviews and don't know how to balance a checkbook? What is this? It makes no sense.

Teenagers need to learn how to be more responsible and take care of the things they should. Parents buy the latest technology for their kids just because they ask for it, and the parents go in debt. MAKE YOUR KIDS WORK FOR WHAT THEY WANT. And yes this is a rampage because I am fed up with certain aspects of society, and no, I do not and will not apologize for my values in life, including for working for what you want.

10 Truths About Being In A Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.
