Things I miss as a Par-Hills Viking

Upon finishing my first year as a college student at Ithaca College, I feel nostalgic.

Scheduling is so much easier!

Back in high school, schedules were so much easier to plan and actually getting the classes you want. In college, you can only wish that can happen. The frustration of college registration is so deep; I have yet to finish mine for the next semester. Luckily after this semester I get to have an easier process; hopefully.

Pep Rallies!

Every marking period, I looked forward to pep rallies. From seeing the student-teacher dodge-ball games and other crazy games they were doing, I enjoyed it all. Everyone was separated by grade and the noise competitions were something that could not be joked with. As the years went by, I grew fonder of the place I called home and it took until now to realize it. My last pep rally as a senior in HS was bittersweet. It was watching Ron, our favorite janitor, deliver a speech on drunk-driving awareness and telling his goodbyes at prom.

J-Prom and Senior Prom!

Both nights were memorable and enjoyable. As a junior the short dress aesthetic was the thing and many girls didn't wear them. Senior year ALMOST EVERYONE WORE RED. But, as the little rebel that I am, I wore black. So many people were worried about the deep cut back black embezzled prom dress I wore. As a un-eventful surprise, I still was allowed to go and I went dancing the night away.

RED. VELVET. MUFFINS

As a Viking, you knew that these things sold as if they were the Kylie Jenner Lipkits. These muffins became a part of my daily diet. Having second period free was the true key as DJ Khaled would say. Fresh baked was the best way to eat it. Once they were gone though, they are gone. As I finish my first year of college, I miss them even more now and I am so grateful for having them in my life.

Prom weekend

Prom weekend is probably the most important time of the year. It's the one weekend away from your parents aside of Orientation Week. All the nasty and loving sides of everyone come out. As a class, we enjoyed our weekend being DTS (Down The Shore) on the dock and on the beach. Although un-eventful, there’s the phrase “What happens DTS, stays DTS”.

Project Graduation

The best night of your life as a Senior came and went so fast. That night, as a class we spent it as a class with a big bang. Met Life Stadium never looked so amazing with all of the pictures on the mega screen. Well I mean, we won State Championships in that same arena six months before. All in all, it was such an amazing night despite all hiccups to get there.

As a Viking alumni, every lesson I have learned in high school definitely got applied in college.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
