We were exploring downtown King Street on Saturday night, trying to find yet another restaurant to eat at. We wanted something different and not filled with tourists. The wandering continued until we crossed the path of Warren Street.
One of my classmates had told me about a small authentic Italian restaurant that she works at claiming that it was a great place with great food. We decided to give it a try and weren't disappointed.
Pane e Vino has indoor and outdoor seating along with live music on the outside. The bar has an extensive wine list as well as a fully stocked bar. Although there was a small wait for a table, it was Saturday night around dinner so it wasn't surprising. The owner worked very hard to make sure we were content waiting at the bar while he cleared us a table.
The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect for a late dinner. Candlelit tables and string lights lined the outdoor space with soft guitars in the background. Although the restaurant was packed, the atmosphere wasn't too loud. The service was great and everyone who came up to our table was extremely friendly. The server knew the menu very well and explained the nights specials without hesitation.
The menu was full of real authentic Italian food from Pappardelle con L'Anstra, slowly roasted duck legs, to Spaghetti Al Pesto. I decided to get gnocchi with spinach and cream sauce and my boyfriend got penne with spicy sausage, mushrooms and cream sauce. Both meals were equally delicious paired with the right glass of wine and before dinner rolls with smooth olive oil.
Overall, the entire experience was great from start to finish with a delicious meal to top it off. Some servers had shirts that said "Shhh, don't tell the tourists!" which was funny and also a good point. Not to say that this restaurant wasn't absolutely amazing, but small family owned restaurants are better when kept to the locals!
Bon Appetit!
