Sarah Palin, former Vice-Presidential candidate, recently announced her endorsement for Donald Trump on Tuesday, Jan. 18. Trump seems to be pleased with this endorsement later releasing the statement: “I am greatly honored to receive Sarah’s endorsement. She is a friend and a high quality person whom I have great respect for. I am proud to have her support.”
If any politician is going to endorse Trump, it only makes sense for Sarah Palin to do so. The divisive pair both have the same let's say, original personalities and political views. Together they make quite the combo. Since she ran as the Vice-Presidential candidate alongside John McCain she has remained relatively inactive in the political scene. There are mixed views about what people think this endorsement might do for Trump’s campaign. Some think it is a bad idea for him to partner with someone who is seemingly unversed in economics and who has a lack of knowledge of geography. I’m sure we can all recall her famous statement that you can see Russia from Alaska, where she is from. Palin touted her foreign policy knowledge on the grounds of her experience with foreign trade as well as Russia’s proximity to Alaska. Others say that her endorsement may help Trump win Iowa, a state where he is struggling to pull ahead in the polls.
Palin made an animated speech that endorsed Trump. She opened with the line “He's from the private sector. Can I get a hallelujah?!" Some of the other gems that came out of her rallying speech include: “He’s got the guts to wear the issues that need to be spoken about and debate on his sleeve, where the rest of some of these establishment candidates, they just wanted to duck and hide. They didn’t want to talk about these issues until he brought ’em up. In fact, they’ve been wearing a, this, political correctness kind of like a suicide vest.”
Let’s say making a joke about a suicide bomber in a political speech was not her smartest move as the fear of them is very relevant right now. Or how about this one: “Well, and then, funny, ha ha, not funny, but now, what they’re doing is wailing, ‘Well, Trump and his Trumpeters, they’re not conservative enough.” I’m just gonna go ahead and say literally no one knows what she was talking about with this one.
Palin’s record of endorsement is mixed as she previously endorsed current presidential candidate Ted Cruz for Senate. Her rambling speech came just 13 days before the Iowa caucus. Trump was quoted saying, “From day one, I said if I ever do this, I have to get her support... She feels it.”
This match was truly made in SNL skit heaven. Stephen Colbert already came out with a parody of the pair.
We will just have to wait and see if Palin’s support will in fact help Trump to pull ahead in Iowa. Meanwhile I think we can all have a laugh at their antics.
