So, if you haven't figured it out, I'm pretty pale, like, really pale. With being pale, I get a lot of responses that normally you wouldn't hear. Here are just a few of them.
1. "Your foundation doesn't match your skin tone."
Yes, I did try to match it as best as I could. Not all brands carry the shade "ghost" or "translucent." I'm sorry.
I actually had a co-worker of mine come up and tell me that brands should come up with shades for people like me. I just shook my head and walked away.
2. "Honey, you look a little bit red to me."
I don't necessarily think you should have to apply sunblock just to drive to work, but I do because of how quickly I burn. I come into work, not trying to get noticed and people tell me I burned anyway. I'm sorry, it's just the way I am.
3. "If you didn't have pale skin, you wouldn't be hot."
As a newly single person out there, I have dabbled in the occasional dating site or two and I've gotten that response every time. Honey, the color of my skin shouldn't matter to you. It should be about the inside.
4. "You should have reapplied. That's why you're so burnt."
Oh trust me, honey, I reapplied. It's just my skin. I didn't choose to be red, the redness chose me.
Another one I get is, "Just wear a hat, that'll do the trick!" What about my neck, shoulders, back and everywhere else that gets burnt? Hmm?
5. "If you complain about being pale so much, why don't you just use an alternate method?"
It either doesn't match, makes me an oompa loompa or just isn't for me. I don't do tanning beds because skin cancer runs in my family genes. Spray tanners just make me orange, and companies don't usually include my skin tone in the factor of "fair." The tanner is usually still too dark for me.
Well, I hope I enlightened you on some things us pale people have to go through. Just think next time when you speak that we didn't choose this.
