I have a love and hate relationship with paint in any form.
This is the finished product of my still life assignment. This was done in oil paint using only white, raw sienna, and payne's grey. Having only three colors kind of horrified me but I like the results. It all looks so unified and the colors do not look out of place.
This was my process:
First, we had to start with thumbnails. The teacher had some still life set ups already there so I ended up picking the one that is more developed.
Then we had to do a large value study of it using vine charcoal. We worked large so we could get a feel for the space and decide what size surface we wanted to work on.
Acrylic underpainting in paynes grey and yellow ochre. I switched to raw sienna for the painting because I did not have yellow ochre oil paint. Payne's grey in acrylic looks ridiculously blue but this was only to block in lights and darks and get a feel for the form.
Starting to add oil paint on top. My forms start getting wonky.
Continuing to fix it.
Still fixing
After a lot of tears, my back lit still life was complete. Painting limited was such an experience.
