Painting: How A Little Bit Of Color Can Paint A Smile On Your Face

We often underestimate the power of a blank canvas, a soft brush and silence. And I don’t mean make-up.

There are million of reasons in the world to be stressed out. Finals, internships, job interviews, or any kind of deadlines often leave us tensed and worried. Sometimes it’s a cold cup of coffee or an annoying conversation that set us into a bad mood. As many reasons as there are to be stressed, there are many more possibilities to conquer that anxiety and create a relaxed mind-set.

However, it’s seems that there is an ocean of options to choose from, which – again – can cause stress and negativity, if you have trouble making decisions. There is meditation, sport or music; there are puzzles, video games or dancing. But not every relaxation technique is perfect for everyone.

Are you one of those people who fall asleep during meditation or one of those who feel completely uncomfortable getting knotted during a Yoga session? I definitely am one of those people. But there is hope for us, guys! How about an activity, which offers benefits for the physical, mental and spiritual body? What about a simple way that combines communication, therapy and self-esteem? Yay, that’s what we want!

The answer is: painting.

I know, I know what you're thinking right now. You’re thinking that you’re a terrible artist, that painting is for kids and that this art is super boring. Let me assure you: You don’t need to be Picasso or Rembrandt or Monet in order to relax your mind with a colored brush. Whether you’re a kid or an adult, being creative still has a positive effect on your health, your amusement and your personal goals. And art is definitely not boring if you will use it as your kind of personal language. Let me tell you more about it!

As painting is an individual activity, you enter your own world. Being a world that is full of possibilities, it will positively isolate you from reality and allow you mental rest and stress lowering.

Also, it will boost your individuality and self-esteem.

Also, it will boost your individuality and self-esteem, as you will get closer to great personal achievement. Painting puts you in a very strong state of concentration, which results in forgetting your troubles and pains. Isn’t that awesome?

Taking a pencil or brush and giving shape to that blank sheet of paper stimulate both the left and right brain hemispheres. The first one covers the rational and logic elements, whereas the second one maximizes our creativity and emotions. Go and create harmony between your heart and mind making those emptions flow through painting.

Finally, learning how to paint or a short painting workshop with your friends has all the benefits of good entertainment: it’s fun! You’ll laugh, socialize, learn something new and feel motivated to finish what you started. And at the end of the day it will leave you with a visualization of your emotions – which can be infinitely relieving. Never tried it? Now is the time!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
