This past week, I had the honor of representing the sophomore class in the Miss College of Charleston Pageant and while I was there I did some investigating. I have so many questions about pageants and one sweet girl took the time to answer some of my questions.
Who makes your wardrobe?
For casual outfit and or swimsuits, I try to find things on department store sale racks, but Christmas presents never hurt either. For evening gowns, I try to buy them used online or at a consignment shop for under $300.
How big will your hair get?
Well, it depends on whenever my arm wants to fall off from curling it, teasing it and when the hair spray runs out, I guess. They say the bigger the hair the closer to God.
Who is your personal trainer?
Myself! I try to work out at least five days a week and I cut out carbs.
Who took your head-shot picture?
My grandfather, who is a retired photographer. It was a win-win for us since he lives alone and I needed pictures taken. We were able to visit and catch up on life.
Did you donate enough to make People's Choice Award?
I asked around, but I found a lot of couch change.
Are you friendly enough to win Miss Congeniality?
Yes, since I ate. Being hangry is a real problem on pageant day.
What is the butt glue?
Hopefully, I packed it with my swimsuit stuff, but it goes on ones behind so that way the swimsuit does not ride up while walking on stage.
Do you have enough rhinestones?
I think the people on Mars can see me, so I hope so.
Did you do your teeth whitening trays?
Of course, I did! And I spoke very funny this morning with them in.
Who does your spray tan?
My big sister in my sorority, her actual sister gave me a spray tan at her house. She does spray tans on the side to make a little extra money aside from her real job.
Not all pageant girls have unlimited budgets like Miss America and Miss United States. With a little bit of hope, saving paychecks and some fundraising, achieving any dream one wants is possible. Pageants are made to be flashy and showy, but what the camera does not show is a girl who put herself all the way through to provide for her education, network for future jobs and lifelong friends. Believe it or not, some of the contestants are actually nice people. They are rare, but always a diamond among cubic zirconia. So next time you try to put a pageant girl down because she likes to sparkle on stage, remember: she might have put herself there all by herself.
