It seems like a lot of college students tend to take internships or jobs in other cities than their hometowns during the summer, but it's hard to decide what to bring when you will be working most of the time! Here are some tips on how to pack for a couple weeks or months away from home for summer jobs:

1. Shoes

Shoes are the one thing you are allowed to overpack in this situation. It's important to bring a lot of different types of shoes because you will probably be walking a lot not only for work, but to get to the subway or run errands. Bringing sneakers and comfy sandals is important.

2. Work Clothes

Despite the fact that is summer and will probably be hot most days, bring a couple different types of outfits for varying weather during the day. Bring clothes for the hottest days, chilly rainy days, and days when you are going from work straight to a social event.

3. Night Clothes

This will be your most social time, as you will probably work during most weekdays, so nighttime clothes should reflect how you want to spend your time in the city, whether it be out with friends, casual events, or staying in.

4. Weekend Clothes

Do NOT overpack weekend clothes! Chances are you will probably mix and match some of your more casual work clothes to wear on the weekends, or end up staying in to relax most weekend days.

5. Workout Clothes

Make sure to pack a reasonable amount of workout clothes as you probably won't have time to do laundry as often as you do in school.

One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
