Recently, everyone's been binge watching Friends, Grey's Anatomy, and Parks and Recreation. These are great shows, but if you've watched them already or are looking for something different, here's a list of five shows, which are available on Netflix, that everyone needs to watch!
1. 30 Rock
If you liked Parks and Rec, you will love 30 Rock. This Tina Fey creation won countless Emmy's during its 2006-2013 run and is loosely based off Fey's time at SNL. 30 Rock follows Liz Lemon, the head writer of a NBC sketch comedy show, as she deals with her cast and crew, along with her overbearing boss played by Alec Baldwin. The show's sharp wit and crazy antics will have you binge watching immediately. Side note: the pilot is a little rough (even Fey admitted it), but stick it out for a few episodes and you'll be hooked!
2. Sherlock
This BBC show tells the tale of a modern day Sherlock Holmes and his trusted sidekick Dr. Watson. Sherlock is the perfect mixture of drama, mystery and comedy. And Benedict Cumberbatch is great at playing Holmes, the amazingly smart and delightfully arrogant sleuth. There are 3 seasons, each with 3 episodes, which are all about an hour and a half. Season 4 premieres on BBC on January 1st, so start watching now to be caught up in time!
3. Freaks and Geeks
Want to see young James Franco, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel play high school stoners from the 1980's? Of course you do! This comedy-drama, created by Judd Apatow and Paul Feig, follows Sam, a geeky freshman, and his older sister, Lindsay, who has a newfound friendship with the school's "freaks", aka the stoners. This show has a huge cult following because it's hilarious, but also deals with relatable family and friend issues (and it takes place in the early 80s, so the fashion and music is awesome). The only downside to watching this show is that it got cancelled after only one season and will leave you wanting more. SO MUCH MORE.
4. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Another Tina Fey creation and a Netflix original, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premiered on Netflix earlier this year. This zany comedy is so nonsensical and similar to 30 Rock's sense of humor. The show is about Kimmy, a 29-year-old who moves to New York City after she's rescued from the bunker she spent her last 15 years in because she was abducted by a pastor who believed the world was ending. (You see what I mean by nonsensical?) Along the way, she makes friends, gets a job and tries to navigate 2015 after being out of loop for so long. Fey makes an appearance in some episodes, and Jane Krakowski, who starred in 30 Rock, plays Kimmy's crazy boss.
5. Twin Peaks
Number 5 on this list has to go to Twin Peaks. This show, which ran from 1990-1991, redefined serial drama and television in general. Twin Peaks is about the investigation of the mysterious murder of Laura Palmer, a high schooler that was beloved by all...or was she? The whole town is involved in the story somehow, which brings tons of plot twists that prove not everything is as it seems. The show is super weird (I won't say how or why), but that's what made it so good. Like Freaks and Geeks, this show has a huge cult following which helped in bringing the show back for another season that will air in 2017 on Showtime.
All 5 of these shows have a little something anyone will like, so definitely check them out if you're looking for something to watch. Now, it's time to binge away!
