To much disdain of many Americans, and as of approximately 12:30 PM EST on the 20th of January, 2017, the United States of America has officially signed into office its 45th president in the form of Donald Trump. Following his inauguration, Trump's speech seemed to stir the pot, which continues to bring into question Trump's true motives as president.
Many people realized that Trump's speech seemed to take jabs at those politicians who helped make his presidency a reality. It's no surprise that Trump has made many enemies upon Capitol Hill, but to further lay into them with pettiness - now with the whole world watching his inauguration - seems childish and ludicrous in nature. This is the man who now represents the face of the United States, and one would hope that he could at least act a bit more mature instead of taking potshots at enemies.
One of the major themes of Trump's speech was his vision of an "America first" policy. Now, don't get me wrong, his mind is certainly in the right place - it makes no sense to purposely damage your assets in aiding other countries. But Trump seems to forget that the United Stares is a leading First-World power, and to enact such a (potentially) detrimental sense of isolationism upon our country could lead to potentially catastrophic ramifications.
Along with "America first," Trump carried forward how power would finally be restored to the people. Many people, however, felt a bit lost with this - the people never really "had" power outside of casting votes in primaries and the election. And even then, the people have always had this power - it was never stripped away or anything of the sort. It truly felt like Trump kept spewing buzzwords to keep his supporters in check. And while that is understandable, is it truly wise to lie to the rest of the world?
Now, at the conclusion of Obama's tenure as president, one can only hope for the best with President Trump. You can choose to love him or hate him, but at the end of the day, he is now responsible for ensuring the safety and liberty of over 300 million Americans, as well as leading the United States forward on a global scale. The United States is already regarded to as a clown on the global front, so as a final requirement for Trump, it is now his job to prove the world wrong - that he is able to uphold his world and can, as he says, make America great again.
