If you're like me and you know you're going away for an extended period of time, you try to first pack mentally and think of everything you could possibly need for any situation that could arise. You try to pack for any type of weather, for when you think you might need some entertainment, for injuries, you've got to be prepared. Whether it's packing to go off to college or just a weekend away from home, we've all brought along more than we need.
When the time comes for you to leave for your trip, your bags seem a bit heavier than you expected, but hey, at least you've got everything you need and then some.
It's funny, though, for as much as you have packed, once you get to where you are, there's always the one thing that you really wanted that you ended up forgetting at home.
Even with the thing you forgot to bring along, you still don't end up using like 25 percent of all the things you brought. You end up either leaving it all still tightly packed in a suitcase or it's sprawled out in the room you're staying in left untouched.
Life is pretty blissful when you're unpacked and going about your trip, not having to worry about what you brought or how you're going to get it home.
Soon enough the time to leave arrives and now there's the mission of having to repack it all up as successfully as it went the first time.
Then when you finally return home, there's the daunting task of having to unpack everything. It's not fun, even though it has to get done, but sometimes it gets put off for a while. Although a while is sometimes an understatement for how long it could take, so you just sort of end up living out of your suitcase until you feel like putting everything away.
And even when you've finished unpacking, there's still that one box or bag that you know needs to get put away but you're just so done with unpacking that it stays in there for the next few months.
Hopefully, we're all going to eventually learn how to not overpack and realize that less is more and it's okay to not bring your entire room with you on a trip. To those of you who have already mastered the art of not overpacking, please share your secrets with the rest of us, help us learn how to pack the right way!
