It is the wonderful time of the year when classes are finished and your schedule seems to open up just enough for some summer fun. With the new season comes the summer concerts series. I love going to shows, but summer brings up a new set of complications and complaints. Here are just a few of the things you'll overhear at summer concerts.
1. "It is so hot."
Wow, but it's only 100 degrees plus the body heat radiating from everyone who is basically piled on top of you or near you in each and every direction. Why do we do this again? Oh yeah, the music. It's always about the music.
2. "When is it gonna start?"
I mean probably around the time the ticket says it will, but we had to get here 2 hours early to make sure we actually found a standing/seating place. So, we may be inside the venue, but we are nowhere near the actual starting time, so just don't lock your knees and keep holding on.
3. "I am sooo hungry."
ME TOO, WE ALL ARE. LET'S MEET UP AT DENNY'S AFTERWARDS. OK? OK.
4. JUST TALKING DURING THE SHOW
The most wonderful part of any show is when it actually starts. Some people have a tendency to forget that this is their cue to stop talking and let the artists do their thing.
5. Oh and the random yelling
Eventually, the night wears on and people are wasted and the wooing seems to have no end. Eventually, it also dies down usually, but the random shouting is to be expected.
6. You always overhear someone's drama.
The waiting period is so long sometimes that you can't really help but talk about something (or everything) during the intermission and even though sometimes it can be annoying, other times it can be pretty entertaining.
7. How many times the person behind/beside you has seen the band
12 and counting? How do I reach that level of concert dedication and how do you afford it?
8. "I AM SO EXCITED"
And to that I say, "Me too!!!"
Summer concerts are the best memories I've made, despite walking 5k's to get to venues and standing/sitting/ crouching for hours at a time. It's always worth it in the end and even though the heat complicates things slightly, it doesn't take out the fun of the experience.
