It bothers me a lot when people don't clean out their email inboxes daily. It doesn't take much time to click the select all button then proceed with the delete button. Being someone who checks their email daily, I do not see the struggle of simply swiping away an unwanted email.
That causes clutter people, CLUTTER. No one should ever see 800+ unread emails *cough* my boyfriend *cough*. When I see something like that I just want to clean out their inbox myself sometimes.
I get it if you aren't tech-savvy but still, anyone could figure out how to do it. But if you know how to work a phone, computer, really anything well enough I'm sure you could delete them. If I saw that many unread emails one day, I would be wondering how much important information I could have missed.
Even if the email is super useless I still open it, usually so I can find the unsubscribe button located at the bottom of all emails from a company. It is so much easier to unsubscribe than to let your inbox get full of useless junk. That would be the equivalency of every time you got junk mail in the actual mailbox, you just let it sit on your table, just collecting more clutter, dust, and has no purpose at all.
Imagine how many fewer emails you would have if you simply just unsubscribed from 99% of emails you got daily. Once I started doing that, I was getting about 2-5 emails a day, not hundreds. For every website you put your email on, it seems like all of a sudden 100 more people/websites have your email now. A way to make websites stop emailing you is to not put your email in, ever.
Or if you enjoy getting the emails but find them completely useless, put them in your junk mail. They will slowly start to grow and gather themselves in one place that isn't your inbox.
A different way you could think of the scenario is would you let your email for school get that many unread emails? NO! Because they're all of some importance and no one wants to see that get full of useless information like that every few hours there is a random IT Maintenance for the school.
If only we could opt out of the option on receiving every email that IT does, my inbox wouldn't get nearly as many emails as it does in a day. Yes, I get it you're doing work to something, but no I do not care what the work is being done on because it most likely doesn't involve me.
Seriously though, if you are someone who allows their inbox to grow with unread emails, even if you delete 10-20 a day AND unsubscribed from many, you wouldn't get so many emails.
