Overcoming your Wi-Fi Limitations with Distributed Wi-Fi

The internet is such a glorious utility that we as individuals and as communities have come to rely on it more than we should. The internet is a wonderful place that is capable of connecting us unlike ever before. Therefore, it's a huge letdown when it doesn't work as it should. The main cause of this is due to the limitations of your wireless router and network congestion.

Overcoming your Wi-Fi Limitations with Distributed Wi-Fi

A majority of devices use Wi-Fi to connect to the internet and the number of devices in an average household is ever growing. The ever-growing use of Wi-Fi networks allowed laptop owners cut the cord and gain freedom of movement. In addition to laptops, in the modern age we have video game consoles along with a plethora of smart devices such as smart watches, home automation, and let's not forget our most beloved device, the smartphone. It clear to see with all these internet-enabled Wi-Fi devices how our wireless routers can get choked up and congested resulting in poor internet connectivity.

INTERNET SLOW DOWNS?

A majority of internet users who rent equipment from internet services providers are quick to blame the provider themselves and fail to realize that the internet traffic is being choked simply due to the number of devices connected. So before you decide to ring up Spectrum Charter and complain about your internet not working as it should, you might want to ask technical support how many devices can be connected to the router at the same time.

DEAD SPOTS

Another issue faced by many users are dead spots or areas where the Wi-Fi network is poor or barely available unlike the services provided by https://localcabledeals.com. The first thing that should be taken into consideration is the location of the router which should be placed in a centralized area of your residence.

Many folks that come across these dead spots are quick to purchase wireless repeater which does extend you internet signal but also adds an additional Wi-Fi connection to your wireless router and limits your internet data transfer speed to 50% of what it originally was.

So if you happen to have a download speed of up to 60 Mbps, prepare to have the speed reduced to a download speed of up to 30 Mbps and a higher ping for all of you online gamers out there.

FIGURING OUT WHAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU

The wireless repeaters are an inexpensive solution since all they do is bridge the connection. If you happen to rent your equipment from your service provider then call and find out if you're eligible for an upgrade.

The average person has at least 5 devices that connect to the internet, therefore just multiply the number of household members by 5 to determine your needs. I have personally chosen to purchase a distributed wireless router which is commonly referred to as a wireless mesh router. I do rent my modem from my service provider for peace of mind and future upgrades. A wireless mesh router is upgradable as well with the additions of nodes that connect with one another via the wireless router and expand the signal based on placement.

A residence with a basement and a second story would require the wireless router to be placed on the ground floor. A node for the second floor and basement would be required, one could also place a node in a shed located in the backyard via an electrical outlet and have strong Wi-Fi signal throughout the backyard to connect your wireless security cameras which happened to be connected via a hub that also happened to be connected to your home automation devices to the internet allowing you to enable, disable, and even stream alive feed from the wireless cameras.

The internet does truly allow us to connect to not only each other but also to all our internet enabled smart devices to one another granting us the ability of remote access.

REVIEWS DO MATTER

When it comes to purchasing your own equipment we often turn to the internet to read and digest reviews prior to making a purchase. At times reading multiple reviews can get confusing, leading you to select another product questioning your original thought which is the whole point of reading the reviews.

We again to turn to the internet for our reviews and community feedback, opinions do matter but not every opinion does. Try to look at the amount of 1 or 2-star ratings as compared to the 4 and 5-star ratings and number of reviews as well. A few bad reviews doesn't mean that product itself is bad. However, when we have multiple reviews pointing to a common known issue then stay clear. At the end of the day, your use case is the most important determining factor and will lead you to the right product itself.

WIRELESS ROUTERS AND IOT

Automation is growing and becoming more popular than ever and granting us the ability of remotely activating and controlling our internet of thing (IOT) enabled devices. Internet service providers at the moment are working on transforming their equipment to include IOT hubs built into their wireless routers.

Current options are available from major wireless router manufactures, however, you still have the option to purchase standalone hubs. The abilities to unlock doors and monitoring your security camera - especially if you have children - are priceless. Coupled with the ability to enable electronic devices such as thermostats remotely is a welcome luxury. I recently purchased a new thermostat and was surprised that it was IOT enabled and came with a wireless transmitter built into the unit.

KEEPING IOT CHEAP

You don't have to make it super expensive either such as purchasing a new air conditioner to enable remote access. Amazon currently offers dash buttons which are configured to work with your Amazon account and allow you to order a product based on the simple push of a button. The community of programmers has gone ahead and done their tinkering, essentially reprograming these buttons to perform other functions such as enabling and disabling a device connected to an IOT hub such a smart outlet control.

Raspberry PIs are these great little microcomputers that can be programmed to display pirated programming and PPV event once programmed since they do output to HDMI display. Once configured properly the dash buttons coupled with the Raspberry PI allow you to remotely execute commands on those devices remotely.

FUTURE PROOFING

If you haven't heard the term Future Proofing then don't worry because it is just one of the few things that is in fact as simple as it sounds. We all like the simpler things in life so let's keep things as simple as we can. Fact: There is no such thing as future proofing!

The ability to purchase an item and ensure its relevance in the future especially when it comes to technology is not possible. We all love to spend money on ourselves but when it comes to retail and online purchase we more often than not sort products from lowest to highest. Another simple fact is that you're going to spend money on the purchase which won't maintain its value in terms of technological standards due to the rapid advancement of technology.

What you purchase now may no longer officially be supported in a few years. There is the possibility of potential community support that has made a simple wireless router purchased 8 years ago still relevant thanks mainly due to this online community.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
