Here it is again, dreaded Sunday night. The night that we all scramble to get our acts together for class or work (or both) that are so threateningly creeping their way upon us. As I sit in my basement and try to get the beer stains out of my dress, I know that there are a number of things that I could be doing (besides laundry even though its essential). I have two exams this coming week, a research study to assist with, probably 3 quizzes and if I’m feeling just out-of-my-mind ambitious an extra credit paper due.
So what am I doing here, you ask? That my dear friend is called Procrastination.
Here are some tips that I need to start following and that could help you get out of the rut of Sunday night cram sessions too.
Don't blow it out of proportion
"Putting off an easy thing makes it hard. Putting off a hard thing makes it impossible."
1. ) Putting things off often leads to negative thoughts being associated with whatever you are avoiding. Negativity happens because you are dwelling on it and the hatred grows over time. This makes a little thing, a horrible beast that is threatening to ruin your life.
2.) DON’T think about it too much and just start doing it.
You are not a psychic
1.) The farther you look into the future of the project, the more it will overwhelm you. While, yes it is a great thing to plan for the future, try as hard as you can to make it back to the present in one piece.
a.) Just focus on taking the first step, (then actually take the first step) the rest will fall into place and eventually you’ll be able to say “I made that project my b**ch"
Public Humiliation
1.) Make your intentions known to many. Ask friends to check up on your progress in order to keep you accountable.
a.) If you’re really brave, maybe post on good ole FB and if you don’t get the task done on time then you will, well your ego will, have to face the humiliation of not accomplishing your (small) goal.
With those new found tips, that are a little quirky, hopefully you can start to accomplish more! I know that I always tell my roommate what I need to get done that night and she helps to hold me accountable. Cheers to making it out of this weekend alive, and cheers to trying to make it to the next
