Overwatch is a first player shooter (FPS) computer game with great character and environmental designs, stories, and controlling systems. The game was designed and published by Blizzard Entertainment on May 2016 for Microsoft Windows, X-Box and PlayStation 4. In the game, there are two enemy teams where each team contains six players and the teams either protect the objectives*, attack the objectives and escort the payload, or occupy the objectives for certain amount of time. Also, unlike other computer games, in Overwatch you are allowed to change your character in one match according to the advantages or disadvantages of your team’s situation to the enemy team.
Overwatch is one of the many games in which it is hard to get used to the gameplay and to learn all the commands that every character has. Unlike many other computer games, Overwatch takes a lot of time and patience. As a person who has been playing lots of games in his life, I think Overwatch is one of the most commitment-needy games.
First of all, to have fun, you have to feel the story behind it. I mean it. Many games would just require you to know the story and that is all. On the other hand, Overwatch does not require knowledge, however, you do get to live in the story. You have the opportunity to feel the experience. Knowing each character’s story, how they connect to other characters, why they have those specific skills, or even the dialogs which occur throughout the game are just magnificent. Sometimes, when you hear your hero joking with another hero in the game can make your day.
Overwatch currently hosts 22 character with really creative skills and life stories. There are four different character styles overall which are offensive, defensive, tank and support. The offensive heroes (McCree, Tracer, Genji, Pharah, Reaper, and Soldier: 76) are usually used to deal with the main part of the team’s total damage. The defensive heroes (Bastion, Hanzo, Junkrat, Mei, Widowmaker, and Torbjörn) are the second main damage dealer and they are highly important if your team is in defense mode. The tank heroes (D.va, Reinhardt, Roadhog, Winston, and Zarya) are the damage consumers, meaning that with their big bodies and higher health, they take the most hits by the enemy team to allow defenders, attackers and supporters to get killed. Lastly, the support heroes (Mercy, Ana, Lucio, Symmetra, and Zenyatta) are mainly healers (except Symmetra). It sounds similar to other FPS games at first, right? I can agree on that. When I first saw the arrangement my first reaction was “Oh, it is just a quite modern and better looking version of other FPS games”. However, when you first choose your character and start playing, you understand that you were totally wrong. I am talking about offensive character who can heal himself up (Soldier: 76), support character who can barbeque you just with her turrets (Symmetra) and so much more.
In conclusion, this game is so much fun to play because of the tiny details which are carefully added to the game. Tune in next week and join me on exploring the story and details of one of the defensive heroes, Junkrat.
*Objective is a place which is generally situated in the middle of the each game with covered blue or red sign depending on your team’s situation in the match.
