I’m 19 years old, just graduated high school, and I’m working. I've got at least five deadlines every week and college might even take up more of my time in the fall.
Truth be told, I love anime, despite what some people think of it. I remember the days I stayed up all throughout the night trying to find new anime to watch. I had to watch em' all. See what I did there?
I remember the days I refused to watch subs and read manga. Those were the days I would seriously stop watching a show just because it didn't have an English dub. Watching subs requires some real concentration and a lot of eye movement.
This is exactly why I didn't watch "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" until 2016. The day I started watching subs happens to also be the exact day my GPA fell by about half a point. I told myself I’d get my grades up, but for some reason I decided Luffy had to become the Pirate King first. Mind you, this man has been trying to become Pirate King since 1997.
Despite all this, I’ve grown out of it. Not entirely, of course. I still love it to this day but I don’t have the time. I’ve got school, work, and personal goals that I have to tend to. I mean come on, I’m moving out in 3 weeks, and I have a ton of stuff to buy and do before I even start go to my first class.
I can’t wait around anymore to see if Sarada becomes Hokage, if Naruto and Goku actually become a good fathers, if Boruto is still a jerk, or if Kirito knows how to lose a fight without relying on the power of plot.
Tons of kids use to get bullied for loving anime and expressing it. Everybody was into other, more mainstream, forms of entertainment. Now everyone is on the bandwagon, and apparently loves anime. This is just like the Pokemon GO situation. Suddenly everyone wants to be a Pokemon Master and catch em' all. Yet they can’t name a single Pokemon other than pikachu or charizard.
Now everyone wants to buy a leaf headband from amazon and post pictures on Facebook like they were into anime from the get-go. A lot of the time, it's really evident that that's just not the case. It's clear that it's all just for likes. For "clout" as the kids call it, nowadays.
There will always be amazing anime, and Japan shows no sign of stopping production. I’ll never fully drop it, to be honest. This is my childhood, and I made a lot of my current friends through connections based on a mutual love of Anime and Japanese-related culture. I’ll watch it on occasions, but adulthood is getting in the way of this hobby.
But listen, all I have to say is that "Dragon Ball Super" is trash.
