Hey, everyone.
Recently I discovered that the phrase, "You learn something new every day," is actually true. Last night, I discovered that, while I was away at college, some of my fellow students from high school have made quite the young politicians of themselves.
Let's recap: I went to a small high school in a sleepy, conservative town in Southern Illinois; there could not have been more than 150 students in my graduating class. Among the loud trucks with at least two shotguns in the back just chilling in the school parking lot, my town was also infested with Confederate flags and tobacco spit.
Oh, and I guess I should also mention that my town was the gathering place of approximately 400 KKK members one weekend in April 1995.
*Quick disclaimer: There are people from my hometown, people of all ages, who I've had the pleasure of knowing. These people have not allowed our town's ghastly history to shape who they are. However valuable they are, these people are scarce among my town's population.*
So, as you can see, we aren't really working with much in the first place.
However, a few of my fellow "twenty-somethings" from the area have restored my faith, as they proved last night via Facebook that my generation really does care about politics, and we can be just as involved and educated as anyone else. These select few individuals stated the reasons they believe that Hillary Clinton should not be president, their insightful rhetoric striking a chord within my heart, showing me that not all hope for my generation is lost.
Let's take a look at the outcome of the potential Clinton presidency, as told by my hometown peers.
As you can see, this person is concerned about our safety, unlike the rest of the United States citizens who want to elect Clinton. This person wants to make sure that other countries don't become angered with us for having a female leader. With the current buzz surrounding ISIS and the Middle East, I'm sure this person means that we, as a country, do not want to anger countries in which Islam is practiced. Good. It would be a shame to have Hillary Clinton as the president at the same time that Muslim women like Megawati Sukarnoputri (President of Indonesia), Sheikh Hasina Wajed (Prime Minister of Bangladesh), Atifete Jahjaga (President of Kosovo), or Bibi Ameenah Firdaus Gurib-Fakim (President of Mauritius) are leading. It's a proven fact that all women want to do is bicker... could you imagine a cat fight between the US and the previously listed countries? Even worse. What if they all got their periods at the same time? World War III, my friends.
Let's look at another one.
Ah, yes. A "women" is capable of being president, but this person is asking the real questions. Is a woman capable of doing everything that a president must do? Can she attend meetings without crying or having a "moment?" Can she go at least one meeting without b*tching at an important foreign diplomat because she's "losing her mind for no reason?" Can she handle the constant battle between listening to her brain or her ovaries? This young scholar thinks not.
Even better, let's get a statement from a person whose opinion really matters the most when it comes to women: a male.
He's right! Women are tired of not being in control. And also they're tired of being murdered for refusing to go home with a man, but that's not what matters right now! What matters is that, like this guy states, women are trying to take all the power! If we have a female president, men won't be in charge of our country the way they have been since 1776. We can't let that happen! We can't let women finally have the political representation they're working so hard to earn! After all, they make up half of the Earth's population. What if they enslave us and force us all to wear maxi pads and, even worse, stay at home with our children? I have to stop typing now; I can hear women pounding at my door, armed with heated curling irons and bras that can strangle me.
In all seriousness, Hillary Clinton is not a good candidate. But no because she is a woman.
I'm ashamed that the opinions in the pictures above actually slipped out of a person's keyboard. I'm even more ashamed that said opinions came from people of my generation, stuck in primeval mindsets that likely can't be changed.
Basically, the purpose of this article is to express my disappointment in these individuals, as I could not comment on the original post via my cell phone.
I mean, I have to get my feelings out one way or another because I'm a woman, and we can't ever just sit down and shut up about any subject ever. Not even subjects that pertain to us. Not even subjects that are inherently about us and our future and our well-being.
Oh, well.
Maybe in the next eight years.
