Halloween is rapidly descending upon us like a swarm of bats. One of the most hailed holidays of the year, Halloween is a spook-tacular way to show off your enthusiasm and creativity. Whether you want to look shocking, stunning, or simply standard, there are a monstrous amount of choices in which to consider. Likewise, when picking out a costume, we all want to elicit some response, be it a scream or a laugh. When it comes down to it, there are essentially eight categories of costumes that one can identify with in regards to his or her personality.
1. The scream-seeker
Halloween is the only holiday where it’s socially acceptable to go around and scare people. If you love scaring the living witches out of others, or feel empowered in your grim reaper costume, you’re more than likely a scream-seeker. Common costumes for scream-seekers include vampires, witches, ghouls, ghosts, devils, and, new to the group, clowns. Will you incite fear this October 31st?
2. The sexy stunner
Mean Girlssaid it first, but Halloween is the one time of the year when someone can dress up with as much or as little clothing as they want, and get away with it. Care to flaunt what you care to flaunt? Not wanting to put much effort into the costume part of your costume, or simply wanting to show off? You can always dress as stunning or stylish as you want, smack on a pair of cat ears or a bunny tail, and let the rest fall into place.
3. The funny honey
Instead of seeking out screams, some people seek out laughs for their October 31st. These chums like to wear silly costumes, like food-related items or animal suits—anything that can be called an outlandish ensemble. If you happen to be one of these people, you’re sure to be the life of the party in some way or another.
4. The time-constrained
Many people (such as myself) don’t decide what to wear until the last minute. Thankfully, there are some decent, and sometimes witty costumes, that one can wear if they’re in need of a costume the night before. Popular ones include being a tourist, a nudist on strike, or a Sim! Procrastinators: no worries. You have options!
5. The intellectual
Do you love to base your costumes off of classic book characters? Do your costumes reference obscure things that only the elite few could possibly understand? Are you into historical figures? If you’re dressing up as Jane Eyre, Albert Einstein, Jay Gatsby, Mary, Queen of Scots, or anyone of those ranks, you’re a bright and proud intellectual. Let it be known!
6. The iconoclast
Similar to intellectuals, iconoclasts love to dress up as famous and iconic figures that everyone else is sure to know, real and fictional. Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, Leslie Knope, and Batman are just a few of the many different choices. Just be prepared to possibly sign a few autographs.
7. The buzz-killer
The buzz-killer costume is probably the easiest costume to wear, as it requires no costume whatsoever! If you’re too lazy to be anything or if you simply want to kill the vibe, then consider being a buzz-killer for Halloween. On the other hand, if you want to dress up as a bee with a knife in your hand, that could be a unique twist to this aptly named ensemble!
8. The team effort
It can be extremely fun to pair up with other people for your Halloween night. Examples of team efforts are TV show casts, super hero duos, famous families, or anything involving more than one person. The more, the merrier (or scarier) when it comes to dressing for Halloween.
