Chip & Joanna got nothin' on us!

As you all know, Chip and Joanna Gaines have completely taken over the home improvement world starting with their show "Fixer Upper" on HGTV, all the way to their adorable Target line and Magnolia Bakery located in Waco, Texas. Before I graduated high school, my mom and I would dream about flipping a house and incorporating our own sense of style into a new space. We would sit on the couch after dinner and watch countless hours of Chip breaking down walls and Joanna designing homes from drab to fab. We loved seeing the room absolutely transform into an unrecognizable space. My mom and I also adore the farmhouse style that Joanna incorporates and knew that someday we wanted our very own cute little farmhouse.

Fast forward two years and my family decided to take on a fixer-upper property in northern Minnesota, complete with some acres for the pups to run and a chicken coop filled with farm fresh eggs. Not only did my parents buy this home, but they also decided that we were going to flip the entire house by ourselves, without hiring anyone for help. So, during Christmas break of my sophomore year of college, we strapped on some safety goggles and got to work. We first decided to tackle the bathroom, then the kitchen, and I insisted on redoing my bedroom. We knocked down walls, ripped up flooring, and installed recessed lighting. We made countless trips to Menards, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, and Home Goods all to perfect our perfect little farmhouse. At the end of the process, we flipped the living room, the kitchen, the two upstairs bedrooms, dining room, office, two bathrooms, and the two downstairs bedrooms.

It was one of the best experiences that I have had thus far in my life. It taught me creativity, patience, planning, and learning that sometimes the result isn't always what you planned. I can't even begin to count the number of times that we changed our minds on what we thought we wanted only to find something better. Now, my family and our two dogs live in the coziest, cutest farmhouse that was made entirely by us. It is the place I call home, and it makes me so happy.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
