Has this ever happened to you: You talk to your friends about wanting to buy something or go somewhere, and out of the blue, you get an ad on social media for that specific thing or place. At first we think, "Okay, thats weird," but then it happens again, and again, and again. At this point it's just obvious that our phones listen to us.
When people first started figuring out that our phones listen to us, the phone company Apple came out with a statement basically saying they don't record us, but anything we say around our phones could potentially be used against us. Which to me, sounds like it records us.
Not only can our phones potentially listen to us, it is said that apps on our phones can listen to us. Some time ago, people came out and said that the popular video/music app, Tik Tok, listens to you and uses facial recognition on the users. No one is really sure how true this is, but we can't exactly rule it out. But this isn't the only app that could be spying on us.
The popular app Snapchat, an app where you can send pictures back and forth to your friends, has also been known for being a potential app that uses facial recognition, and records you. This has been a theory since a few years back when Snapchat updated and the app got filters you can apply to your face, which essentially scans your face and puts a filter on you.
It has also been proven that Siri, the person on your phone that answers questions, as well as Alexa, is always attentive and is always listening to you. Siri is always on, even when your not using your phone or other device. This can be proven by saying the commands, "Hey Siri" or "Alexa", that makes the device answer.
For me, the social media Facebook seems like it could be one of the main apps that records us. For example, a couple of months ago I was in Ulta, a makeup store, just browsing the aisles and I came across a makeup mirror, stopped to look at it, and thought to myself, "Oh thats a nice mirror", took a picture of the mirror, and kept walking. I didn't say anything to anyone about the mirror or anything. And the weird thing about this is that the next day, I got an ad on Facebook about the same exact mirror that I saw when I know, I didn't even talk about it to anyone. Now, this could just be a coincidence, but I still find it very strange.
Again, I can't prove this to be true, but I can't be the only one that thinks that our devices could be listening to us.
