So much of our lives are looking into our phones and on apps seeing what other people are doing as well as communicating with others. Talking to people face to face and getting to know someone personally is so foreign to our society. And it's ridiculous.
I just recently got sick of social media and how I just feel like I am mindlessly scrolling every day through feeds that I genuinely don't even care about. Why does all of what's on social media matter so much? News flash...it doesn't.
Half of the news we see does not have the whole story there, people are spreading rumors, pictures are distorted or photo-shopped, and no Diane, we do not care about the 5th waffle maker that you bought on sale.
People celebrate reaching a certain number of followers more than they celebrate accomplishing things in the real world, posts are taken down if they don't get enough "likes," and people "fall in love" with someone before actually meeting them in person.
Don't get me wrong, as a girl who has transferred twice and has friends all over the map at school, I love the fact that it keeps me in touch with them always. However, this fake ish has got to go.
From never feeling like enough on social media after looking at "Insta famous" accounts, to constantly thinking that I need to always have something "Insta-worthy" to post, I'm exhausted. There's just so much of our world right there in front of us that we have been gifted with that I don't want to miss any more than I already have. Do you?
Listen to me one last time, social media is a fake world. We created it, but it's up to us to choose if we let it run our lives. That boy doesn't like you if he just throws a "like" on your pictures and sends you Snapchats of his forehead. You are not unworthy if you don't look just like Instagram model #84537257. Lastly, you most certainly should not believe everything you read on social media. Tune into reality and enjoy the life we have been given. Put the phone down, it can wait.
