In the news recently there have been countless stories about school shootings and threats of violence at schools across the country, and our government has done absolutely nothing about it.

Teenagers across the U.S. have had enough. They’re tired of not feeling safe in a place where they go to learn. They’re tired of having to be on guard constantly, waiting for the next bad thing to happen. And they’re doing something about it.

Hundreds of teenagers, all from different schools and different states, are taking a stand for the same reason: gun violence has become a clear problem at several school districts. How many school shootings will it take for people to see that? No more, for these teens. Our government isn’t willing to stand up and do what’s right and fight back, but the teenagers of America are.

Now, you might be wondering how this relates to Harry Potter and the Wizard World. In the fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phionex, the plot of the book is based off of a revolution. The Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, and the rest of the Ministry isn’t willing to admit that there is a clear problem of dark wizardry within their society. They deny all of the facts and sit there for the majority of the book and do nothing. However, Harry and his friends do quite the opposite.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione spark a revolution. While their school is trying to ignore the fact that their society is crumbling beneath all of the darkness, they form a secret club that they called “Dumbledore’s Army.” Within this club, Harry teaches his classmates defensive spells that they can use if they’re ever in a life or death situation. They rebel against the school system and have these secret meetings, despite what the government is telling them.

While teenagers in our society aren’t forming a secret club or hosting secret meetings, the general idea is the same: the government is doing absolutely nothing, which means that it’s up to teens to do something. They’re realizing that no one is going to solve their problems, so it’s up to them.

I’m a huge Harry Potter fan so I’m a huge supporter of our world becoming more like theirs, but not like this. Not in this way. I’m a fan of the magic and the adventures, not the violence and the ignorance of their government. The fate of our country shouldn’t be resting on the shoulders of children. It’s time for adults to grow up, stand up, and change something. Until that happens, this will continue to happen. Nothing is going to get better.

To every single teenager out there that’s taking a stand and making their voice heard on this topic, I am so proud of you. Because of you, we are one step closer to changing our society and becoming better. Don’t give up hope.

If you're a fan of Harry Potter, raise your wand in honor of all of those that have passed during all of these tragedies. Honor their memory by doing something. Make a change.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
