Osman Gazi:
Osman Gazi, also known as “Osman I” was the head and founder of Ottoman Turkish Kingdom. The duration of his reign is from c.1299-1323/4. He was a Muslim sultan who was governing the Ottoman kingdom. He is famous for his sword which is called as “Sword of Osman”. This was an important sword that was used in the coronation ceremonial of the Ottoman leaders. He died in c.1323/4. The Sword of Osman:
The Sword of Osman was a significant sword the Turkish state. It was used during the canonization ceremony of the leaders of Ottoman Kingdom. In the Turkish language, it is written as “Taklide Seif”. The practice of using this sword during the coronation ceremony of the sultans started first when the father-in-law of Osman girded him with the sword of Islam. The practice of girding Osman with the sword of Islam was a vigorous commotion that was held within two weeks of sultan’s mounting to the rule. The ceremony was held at the Tomb Complex in Eyup. The Golden Horn waterway founded in the capital Constantinople was the exact place where ceremony held. The Tomb Complex of Eyup was constructed by the Mehmed II. It was built to give honor to Abu Ayub Al Ansari, a friend of Muhammad, died in the 7th century in the first Muslim siege of Constantinople. Thus the sword gritting was based these complex grounds.
Osman’s Last battle:
The campaign against the city of Barsa was the last battle of Osman. Osman himself did not take part in this battle. Osman got the victory at Barsa which proved to be very significant for Ottoman. It acted as the performance ground in the battle against Byzantines. Moreover, it also served as new gird capital for Osman’s son.
