Why I Believe In The Supernatural

There are many unexplainable phenomena... that could probably be explained by ghosts.

Why I Believe In The Supernatural
The Odyssey

I honestly do not understand anyone who thinks that, in our lives, we are the only beings in the entire universe. That there couldn’t possibly be things like ghosts, aliens, demons, angels, or gods. I really, honestly do not understand. Are we, as humans, so self centered that we believe that in the endlessly growing, unexplored expanse that is the universe, we are the only intelligent species out there? No, we cannot possibly be. This is why that I believe in such things as the supernatural and alien life.

Humans are complex creatures with complex belief systems, and I am one of those who believes in a soul, and also believes in life after death, as well as reincarnation. I believe that there are such things as ghosts because humans are gifted with souls that will well outlive the mortal body they currently inhabit. Think of this as an extension of the idea that matter is neither created nor destroyed. Simply, it is transformed into something different as we pass between lifetimes. And much like how some things are muscle memory, I believe that our souls, too, remember things that had a great impact on us. Take me in Amtgard for instance; I’ve never fired a bow or fought with a sword at any point in my life, and yet I feel most comfortable with a sword in one hand and shield in the other, or with an arrow nocked in a bow and a quiver on my back. Even with boffer weapons in my hands I feel a strange sense of ease.

Now, this feeling does not solely apply to when I’m at Amtgard. I also get the feeling when talking to certain people, or when I see particular scenes in movies or TV shows, or even when I’m just writing. This feeling is something I’ve come to call my “past life feels” just because it’s a response that other people would not normally have to that particular scene in a movie, and it also makes me feel like I’m having some sort of flashback.

It sounds crazy, perhaps, but considering the fact that we can’t possibly prove that there aren’t aliens, how could you prove that there aren’t souls either? That also brings me to the topic of all other otherworldly beings. Yes, I believe that on some other plane of existence, or even just out in the universe somewhere, there are beings besides ourselves. There are things that are unexplainable, or at the very least, things that we do not have an explanation for as of yet. I am not here to force my beliefs on people, but I do firmly believe that the entities people worship, whether it be Allah, Buddha, Krishna, or any other god, are looking out for those of their faith. It may not be as obvious as a golden figure coming down from the heavens to deliver you a message written on a scroll (or on stone tablets), but there are little signs of people’s gods all around.

A little faith goes a long way, especially in today’s world. And when our alien overlords finally come to take over, or ghosts start manifesting physically in people’s homes, I will be wholly prepared to say, “I told you so.”

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
