Now that spring break has come to a close and the real world is starting to settle back in, many may be having mixed opinions about how they spent their spring break.
Was it the best week of your life? Were memories made? Or maybe, you felt like your spring break was dull or lame when comparing your week off to the stories and pictures of other people's trips.
While this spring break was one of my best, I remember looking back on past years and thinking "Wow, am I doing this whole thing right? Am I having as much fun as I should be?"
Don't get me wrong: there is absolutely nothing wrong with going off to a tropical resort with a huge group of friends and having a wild, crazy time. If that's you and how you spent your time, I'm all for that and might even be asking for an invite next time. But if that choice isn't what best fits you, have no shame in that.
There are so many equally fulfilling, productive and fun ways to spend spring break. To name a few:
1. Rest
There's a reason they call it a "break" in the first place. My first plan for spending spring break this year was honestly to just go home, see my family, and catch up on all the hours of sleep I need.
College can be tiring, and when you work hard, sleep can often time be a luxury. There's nothing wrong with taking a week off from all the assignments, responsibilities and obligations to get the rest your body and mind deserves.
2. Work
I know this is 100% contradictory to getting rest, but that's why this is a list of options. If you're the type who can't lay around for too long, then another way to spend your spring break is to make money. If you're anything like me, then you're somehow ALWAYS feeling like you need more money for something, and are the ultimate example of "a broke, college kid."
Picking up some extra shifts somewhere nearby, or babysitting your neighbor's kids a few nights out of the week is perfect, easy ways to save up some money during spring break, while also keeping you busy if you didn't make plans.
3. Try Something New
You know those things you've always said you want to get into or try, but you never can seem to find the time for in your normal, busy schedule?
A week off from school is the perfect time to explore the things you've always wanted to and to have some quality YOU time.
5. Go on a Mission Trip
Not every trip out of the country has to be to an all-inclusive resort on a white sand beach (again, nothing wrong with that, because that's exactly how I spent my spring break). But perhaps a more fulfilling trip to fill your passport with is the trip that involves serving others.
Whether it be a mission trip for religious reasons, a medical missions trip, or a trip to help others in any way you can: they all matter. The greatest fun we can get in life is the joy we receive when we serve others.
Regardless of how you spent your spring break, I hope everyone enjoyed their week to the fullest. If maybe you weren't so satisfied, maybe one of these options may have appealed to you for how to spend next year's time off.
You've only got about 51 weeks to decide!
