Other Than Me

An original poem dedicated to being you and bringing your dreams to the forefront. You are uniquely you!

Hey readers! I wanted to provide some more inspiration for anyone going through a tough time with finding their own goals. It can be a little difficult to not compare your journey to someone else's as I have experienced the same feeling. However, looking into taking care of yourself and being the best version of the 'you' that inspires your soul is the most important. I say this because there is absolutely no one that can dream the way that you do and make those aspirations a reality. Even a small ounce of belief in who you are can be enough to create and instill a sense of courage for anything you want to do. Continue to thrive as you. Rooting for you always!

The way I see my potential

Now, is different from what

It once was in the past

It used to be uncertain

I would try to be like

This person and that person

Yet, I ended up still wondering,

'Is this me? I don't feel it is.'

There was a point when I

Truly believed I wouldn't get

Any of the dreams I've hoped for

Since I was young;

That I still needed to be

Like someone else other

Than myself, other than me

The colors in my world

Reflected those that

Didn't paint in the shades

Where I wanted them to be

I asked in my prayers,

'Will I ever get it right?'

I started to trust inside

Myself, for I created some light

The unsureness began to fade away

The longer my light stayed

There was change that emerged

For I crafted my own path

And listened to my own heart

The colors I wanted and needed

Entered my pallet effortlessly

Almost as if they were patiently waiting

For me to be no one else

Other than me

No longer did I feel

I wasn't doing it right

No longer did I wonder

About another's route

To their dreams of life

My prayers made me determined

For no longer did I question

Why being myself was worth it

I find comfort in knowing

That I am in my way, unique

I will never aspire to be anyone

Other than me

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
