As an Orientation Leader, you're likely to always be prepared. Whether it be having an icebreaker ready to go or knowing important facts about the school; you're ready for anything! Here is a starter pack of 10 things that OL's are able to do very well.
1. Knowing way too many facts about your school.
You'll definitely need to know what year the cafeteria was built.
2. Knowing 4-5 icebreakers off of the top of your head.
Helping students get closer to each other one annoying game after another.
3. Smiling a lot.
Let me help you make friends!
4. Having copious amounts of energy.
Even when you haven't gotten a solid eight hours of sleep in the past two days.
5. Remember all of the names of the students in your group easily.
Thank you icebreakers for making this possible!
6. Always caught wearing comfortable shoes.
15 hour work days are no joke.
7. Matching uniforms with the rest of your staff.
It's really all about the matching shirts.
8. Memorizing the orientation schedule.
Knowing exactly when and where every session will be. Also helpful because students will constantly ask when the next session is.
9. Being able to separate students away from their "helicopter" parents.
"The parent session is that way."
10. Deflecting answers to painfully awkward questions about your personal life and your school onto other subjects.
"So are there parties at school?"
"Where do people party here?"
"Did you drink as a freshman in college?"
