To all the 2019 high school grads out there... CONGRATS! Although the high school chapter of your life has officially come to a close, a new amazing journey is about to begin! Soon you will be moving in and embarking on the best four years of your life (it's not a cliche, it's actually true) but before you officially become a college student you have to go through orientation. Whether you're nervous, excited or indifferent about the whole experience, here are 6 tips for your college orientation!

1. It's normal to be nervous.

If you are nervous about orientation, don't worry, you're not alone! Spending a few days with complete strangers is intimidating and can be uncomfortable at first. If you don't know anyone walking into orientation, don't sweat it, most everyone else is in the same boat.

2. Be open to meeting new people.

These are the people who will be spending the next four years with. It might feel awkward at first, but don't be afraid to say hi to people and spark up a conversation. Who knows, maybe you'll meet your best friend during orientation!

3. Orientation leaders are some of the coolest people you'll ever meet.

You will soon come to realize that your group will become very close with your orientation counselor. Everyone who works out orientation is friendly, outgoing and relatable. I still say hi to my O.C. even 2 years after my freshmen orientation! Get to know them because they will be a great resource during your freshman year and throughout your college experience.

4. Don't think you're too cool for orientation.

One thing you should know about orientation is that your orientation leaders will make you play ridiculous games, but they are supposed to be FUN! Don't be that guy that thinks he is too cool to participate, because nobody likes that guy. Orientation activities are designed to break the ice and make everyone feel a little but more comfortable before the big move in day, so leave your ego at the door and trust the process.

5. Ask questions!

Orientation is a great time to ask questions about classes, dorms, partying, or anything that is on your mind. This is your new home after all! Your O.C. will have great advice and will be more than willing to share their personal experiences with you.

6. Go in with an open mind.

College orientation is meant to be a fun bonding experience that will hopefully ease your nerves prior to move-in day. One of the most important things to remember is to be yourself. College is a time to find your true self, not to change who you are to fit in with a certain crowd. I met some of my best friends through orientation and I could not imagine my college experience without them. Embrace orientation for what it is, even if it feels awkward and uncomfortable at first!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
