Don't say it's gross to use organic deodorant because although you can already imagine my week for my armpits, it's normal for everyone to sweat even if not everyone uses organic deodorant. Everyone sweats or smells unless you were blessed with perfect underarms. If you were, then please tell us your secrets.
I assure you I don’t stink, well not anymore. Let me clarify and explain why I decided to switch to organic deodorant instead of staying with the magical antiperspirant deodorants we all choose to use because of it’s mighty power to keep our armpits from smelling and sweating.
I switched to organic deodorant because my last deodorant was gone and I couldn’t find it in the states, I usually buy it from Mexico while on vacation. Yea, I am weird with the deodorants I choose, but the ones they sell in Mexico work amazing. Anyways, I’ve always wanted to slowly switch my products to organic so I thought this was a perfect time to go forward and get the organic deodorant.
As for the experience, it’s been sweaty and unenjoyable but I was committed to it.
The first organic deodorant I bought was the Crystal Essence Roll-On- Chamomile & Green Tea. At first, I could feel and smell the difference - it was a good one - until it got sweaty so that was when I thought I needed to go for a better and more expensive organic deodorant.
I did some research online about it and apparently it’s normal to sweat when you change from antiperspirant to an organic deodorant. And I also realized it’s actually better to use organic deodorant because it doesn’t contain all these harsh chemicals.
According to womenslifestyle.com,
“The various aluminum compounds typically used in antiperspirants work by closing or clogging pores to prevent the release of perspiration. When sweat builds up behind blocked ducts, it becomes trapped beneath the skin. This can cause unpleasant side effects such as bumpy and painful inflammation along with a buildup of sweat-digesting bacteria, which actually cause bad odor. When digging deeper into the issue, there are larger health risks at stake that aren’t just skin deep. From infertility-causing ingredients to toxic chemicals linked to Alzheimer’s and cancer, antiperspirants contain a variety of ingredients that are absorbed into the skin and can lead to a wide list of ailments and systemic diseases.”
So after reading several articles, I decided to get used to organic deodorants. It sounds crazy that a deodorant can cause such harm but I might as well go for the organic kind and avoid those things.
I bought the Jason pure natural deodorant stick with purifying tea tree. It claims to be clinically tested and all-day odor protection. It has no aluminum, parabens, phthalates, or propylene glycol.
So the first day I started wearing the new deodorant was on Saturday. Here’s how it went every day for my armpits for a week:
Saturday: I was excited to try my new deodorant, I remember putting enough just in case. The deodorant smells fresh and nice, I hoped it would smell like that all day, but it didn’t. After a few hours, my shirt was a little damp under my armpits but it didn’t smell bad, it was just armpit sweat. However, during the day I did switch out of the shirt because I didn’t like showing off my sweat stains but once again after a few hours I had armpit sweat. Also, at night It didn’t smell great either.
Let’s just say, I was glad to take a shower at night.
Sunday: I put on the deodorant hoping today would be fine but I was at home most of the morning so nothing happened. It wasn't until I went outside for a few hours when the armpit sweat appeared, thankfully I was wearing a loose shirt so it wasn’t noticeable.
Monday: I planned to make sure I wore loose shirts throughout the week just in case a sweaty incident happened. I also brought the deodorant every day with me just in case I needed reapplying. So I wore a loose dress with a loose shirt over it today, I did sweat but thankfully it wasn’t noticeable. I was getting irritated because I kept thinking maybe the deodorant wasn’t working for me but I was committed to finishing the week.
Tuesday: I don’t remember what I wore to help conceal today’s embarrassing sweat stains. I just remember sweating and being afraid of lifting my hands too high for people to see. I made sure I kept my arms close to my sides. Also that night, I remember smelling not so good.
Wednesday: At this point, I was losing my mind with the stupid organic deodorant. I wanted to head to the nearest store and buy a normal deodorant filled with ingredients to prevent sweat and smell. But I wasn’t going to break that easy, I wore a denim shirt with no sleeves to prevent any sweat but I was wrong. During the middle of the day, I had minor sweat under my arms so I brought out my sweater to hide that nastiness.
Thursday: Surprisingly during the day I didn’t sweat. I might have but it wasn’t so bad and I didn’t get it on my shirt. My armpits also didn’t smell bad. I was starting to recover and regain hope with my organic deodorant.
Friday: Last day! I wore a loose white shirt and I put on the deodorant. I went on with my normal day, I’m in a cold office part of my day and the other part is walking outside in the hot weather. I didn’t sweat at all. My armpits were dry and they smelled good too.
A few things I learned throughout the week was:
- I never knew I could sweat that much. I never sweat but wearing organic deodorant really changed my life.
- EXFOLIATE!!!! If you’ve never exfoliated your armpits then you really should, like right now! It’s a life-changer and your armpits will thank you.
- Although the organic deodorant broke my heart several days, by the end of the week I had full trust on organic products.
- In order for organic deodorant to take effect, make sure you use it for a week.
