Orange May Be The 'New Black,' But 'Wentworth' Is Where It's At

Everyone has heard about Orange Is the New Black and the struggles of Piper Chapman.

Speaking of struggles, can you believe Season 5 is already come and gone!? Yes, I binge watched all thirteen episodes in two days, like many other people. And I will complain for the rest of the year waiting for Season 6, like many other people. But how many of you have heard of Wentworth!? It’s also on Netflix, but not a Netflix original. Wentworth is the Australian prison show surrounding the life of women in prison. I just wanted to share some of my thoughts with you about the show. NO SPOILERS AHEAD (Except for OITNB and Glee)!

1. Where are the orange uniforms?

Maybe if they did have orange uniforms, it would be too similar to OITNB?

2. Speaking of preferring.. I prefer Wentworth over OITNB! Sorry, not sorry.

The episodes are a bit darker than we’re used to, figuratively and literally, (if you’re not sure of the difference, go check out Series of Unfortunate Events, also on Netflix. I have a problem, guys). The episodes are more gut wrenching, the romance is more developed, and nothing is predictable! Okay but seriously, IT IS JUST THAT GOOD! Seriously. I love OITNB and have been following Piper and her gang for three years now, but Wentworth is a show I wish I would have discovered sooner.

3. Why do I feel like I’m watching Chicken Run!?

We all vaguely remember that movie with claymation chickens and something about them being trapped. Maybe that’s why? They’re both in prisons! But seriously, all I can think about is these actresses voicing the chickens in Chicken Run (Especially Liza). Is it just me?

4. I miss the OITNB theme song.

Every time a new episode starts, I find myself wanting to belt out “You’ve Got Time,” but alas, this is not that theme song. Maybe I’ll learn this new song after I finish binge watching through Season 5 (Same amount of seasons as OITNB).

5. Why is my face leaking?

I’m not one to be crying over some show, except for one time in OITNB and Glee, but this show has made actual tears fall from my face not once, but multiple times!! Bring tissues guys.

6. Why doesn’t this show have more followers and media hype??

Seriously guys! GO WATCH WENTWORTH and let me know what you think!
