There is something about the uncertainty of the future that is almost comforting. And of course, there are two ways to look at it: the future could hold something completely incredible, or not. At some point in time, I decided to simply let myself assume that there is always something to look forward to, whether it's in 5 days or 5 years. I find a lot of security in the fact that I have no idea what's in store for my life. No, I promise I'm not insane- who's to say that your life will not completely change in the most remarkable way before you go to sleep tonight?
If you want to talk about the likelihood of that happening, yeah, maybe it's low. But why would you want to live your life thinking anything else? Keeping your head held high in the face of adversity is extremely hard; I get that. Everyone faces a different reality, and everyone has their own struggles. What I've realized, however, is that accepting your current defeats, and living in your own negativity, isn't going to fix your life. And to be quite honest, no one likes the guy who goes on about how bad life sucks. What you give to the universe is what you get back- or at least that's what I think. If you spend your life drowning in your own negativity, you're going to attract more negative energy. There is nothing worse than leaving a conversation feeling drained from another person.
If you want to improve your life, look for the silver lining, no matter how small it may be. So you missed the morning bus, had a major headache, and had to do an entire group project by yourself. But what about the old man you saw in Starbucks ordering himself a frappuccino? Or that cute boy in your psych class who complimented your new glasses? Moments only have as much power as you give them. When you lie in bed at night, think of the things (no matter how few, or how small) that made you think, "yeah, I can get through the day," and let those be the thoughts that circulate through your mind.
All of this stems from living life with a grateful attitude. No matter how bad your day was, or what situation you're in, there's always something in life that has to keep you going. In order to life a happy life, you must choose to be happy.
