Throughout my time in New York for school, I've been lucky enough to see more than a few TV tapings in some of the most famous studios in the US, if not the world.
From Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show to the ever-funny SNL, being able to watch quality live comedy in a cool, totally unique atmosphere is one of my favorite pastimes. Knowing this, it comes as a surprise to no one that when my job offered me tickets to check out Comedy Central's new show The Opposition with Jordan Klepper, I was totally on board.
Arriving at the show was easy enough: the studio is located in Midtown, and all that stood between me and a very funny evening was a security check and a slightly chilly reception room.
After waiting about a half hour for the show to start--my coworkers and I had arrived at the earliest possible time in order to get good seats--we were ushered into a small studio that was decorated with the corkboard mind-maps of a conspiracy theorist--only these theories were totally revolving around Beyonce, Russia, and the existence of sentient computers.
You see, The Opposition is the exact opposite of its sister network The Daily Show: it mocks the ridiculousness alt-right media by imitating it to the point of hilarity, something that Jordan Klepper was able to pull off flawlessly. With pitch-perfect comic timing and a good-natured grin when not on camera, Klepper leads The Opposition to victory in its quest to deflate the ego of the alt-right.
With episodes available for free streaming online, The Opposition is a new comedy you should definitely check out. And if you score any more studio tickets, feel free to invite me along!
