Welcome to another week of OPOW, your personal Odyssey playlist that brings awesome songs! Some songs will be old. Some songs will be new. Overall, you’ll get five songs to listen to when you’re doing homework or laying in bed on a rainy day.

Here are your five songs to listen to this week!

Stellar “Sting”

Korean girl group, Stellar, made their return to the K-Pop scene with their new song “Sting.” The song is about questioning their lover if they still love or not. It’s pretty much trying to call their former partner out for acting like her still have feelings for them. This K-Pop track has a mix of 90s and house music, which makes it natural and catchy. If you like anything nostalgic 90s music and energizes you, Stellar will “Sting” you as your earworms (Worst. Pun. Ever.)

Zayn Malik “Pillow Talk”

And you thought he was gone for good. After departing from the group One Direction, Zayn Malik has made a solo debut with the song, “Pillowtalk”. This sensual R&B/dance track is about making love with your partner, feeling like both war zone and paradise. “Pillowtalk” brings such sexual awakening that you probably can’t dance along to it—with or without your significant other. If you’re looking for a song to play on Valentine’s Day, Zayn Malik got you covered.

Coldplay & Beyoncé “Hymn For the Weekend”

First collaboration of 2016! Off from their album A Head Full Of Dreams, alternative band Coldplay works together with the-one-and-only Beyoncé for their third song, “Hymn For the Weekend.” The song is about having a good time and spending time with your lover. “Hymn For the Weekend” contains basic pop sounds with great use of percussions and Beyoncé’s smooth vocals. Even though the song makes you want to sing a cover and post it on YouTube, their music video is facing Internet backlash for cultural appropriating Indian culture (this can be touched on for a different article) (http://www.buzzfeed.com/sahilrizwan/coldplay-and-b...). Although the music video is facing cultural appropriation backlash, take a listen to their new song and enjoy smoothness of it. Plus Beyoncé is in it. What could go wrong?

De La Soul “Me, Myself, and I”

Bringing the old school bask! Hip-Hop group De La Soul is known for their hit song, “Me. Myself, and I.” Sampling funk band Funkadelic’s “(Not Just) Knee Deep)” for the 1989 hit single, the song combines classic hip-hop with dry humor and social commentaries on their sound in a heavy mainstream hip-hop music. Member Trugoy sums up the meaning of the song as “being yourself, doing your own thing and not ever being afraid to do your own thing”(http://www.songfacts.com/facts-de_la_soul.php). So if you need motivation or a reminder to be yourself, De La Soul’s “Me, Myself, and I” will be the song for you.

Jennifer Hudson “Spotlight”

To finish this playlist off, let’s go to another throwback track with Jennifer Hudson’s debut single “Spotlight”. Her 2006 hit song is about being independent from a controlling partner. Her song spotlights, no pun intended, being strong and standing up to her lover who wanted to take her back. She mentions that if her treats her right, he wouldn’t have to worry about the break-up. If you want to feel independent this week, blast Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight” because that song is amazing. Just saying.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
