After a two-year hiatus from the music scene, Korean boy group Winner returns with their album Exit Movement. They released three music videos including “Sentimental.” The song is about feeling emotional at night without anyone to comfort to. While the lyrics may be sad, its upbeat tempo keeps their audience listening and dancing along. Maybe "Sentimental" will be there to comfort you on lonely nights.
Ice Cube “The N***a You Love To Hate”
From the rapper who started his career in hip-hop super group N.W.A, Ice Cube has one of his most recognized songs “The N***a You Love To Hate.” Released in 1990, Ice Cube raps to the song about his personal life after leaving N.W.A. “The N***a You Love To Hate” contains many profanity but its sampling from George Clinton to N.W.A amplifies this hip-hop classic. Its theme is solid from start to finish: you love to hate him, you hate to love him.
Leon Bridges “River”
From his 2015 debut album Coming Home, Leon Bridges serenades his listeners with his song "River." With fantastic use of 50s sounds, "River" is about faith. According to Bridge, he sings "River" as "symbolism for change and redemption." He uses his personal, spiritual experience to sing about having faith and open for change. "River" will lift you up and feel almost empowered.
Paramore “Hate To See Your Heart Break”
From their 2014 self-titled album, Paramore croons to a comforting song called "Hate To See Your Heart Break". Written by the band's front woman, Hayley Williams, and Taylor York, "Hate To See Your Heart Break" is about comforting a friend who is feeling sad or lonely. If you feel sad or lonely, Paramore will sing and hope your heart will not break again.
Janet Jackson “Control”
February 3rd celebrated singer Janet Jackson’s 30th anniversary for her album Control. The albums includes songs such as "The Principle of Pleasure" and her break-out hit "Control." "Control" is about being in charge of your own life. Jackson's break-out 1986 hit has made her into a superstar today. "Control" still plays as feeling independent and taking charge of your own life.
